Masks: 1,000 Memorable NPCs for Any Roleplaying Game now up for pre-order

Gnome Stew's Masks: 1,000 Memorable NPCs for Any Roleplaying Game is now up for pre-order through Engine Publishing.

The 336 page, systems neutral, prep book contains more than 330 NPCs each for the fantasy, science fiction and modern genres, is a collaboration of 22 writers from 3 continents that took 10 months of development.

Each NPC is described in a highly detailed template that provides GMs with the appearance, personality, motivation, background, traits and ways to roleplay them as villains, allies or neutral NPCs. You can check out a 17 page excerpt (with 6 NPCs from each respective genres) here.

With a foreword written by Open Design's Wolfgang Baur, Masks also comes with indexes according to traits, names and authors with an appendix by groups which makes this a handy tool for GMs to pluck a full-fledged NPC on the fly and during prep. It also has a section of GMing advice on ways to re-skin the NPCs.

The pre-orders are for a hardcover edition of Masks and a PDF which can be immediately accessed upon placing the pre-order for $39.95. The PDF alone is priced at $19.95.

Gnome Stew is also offering a special pre-order bundle of Masks and their first book, Eureka: 501 Adventure Plots (both in print and PDF), for a 20% discounted price of $59.95.

A softcover edition of Masks: 1,000 Memorable NPCs for Any Roleplaying Game would be available at GenCon 2011 and other retailers.

Masks: 1,000 Memorable NPCs for Any Roleplaying Game is expected to ship on August 1 and you can place your pre-order at the Engine Publishing online store.
